Making a difference, every day

PE

Edwalton Primary has a long and proud tradition of sporting success!

At Edwalton Primary School we pride ourselves in the opportunities we give to all our children to take part in PE and school sport in a fun and challenging environment. The children cover a wide range of activities in their PE lessons and have the opportunity to develop their skills further in extra-curricular clubs and inter-school competitions.

Through our sports provision at Edwalton we try to cater for as many different sporting tastes as possible to encourage and enable the highest participation rates. We try to find something for everyone, so that all children have the opportunity to participate in a sport that they feel comfortable and confident in.

Sport across the school is organised by Mrs Kang. All classes at our school, from Foundation to Year 6, have two sessions of PE each week. One session is led by Mrs Kang and the other by the individual class teachers.

We follow the LCP programme for PE and cover all 6 areas of the PE National Curriculum including:

Athletics

Dance

Games

Gymnastics

Outdoor & Adventurous Activities

Swimming

All our Key Stage 2 children get the opportunity to swim each year and we run residential programmes in Years 3/4 and Years 5/6 that are always very popular and fulfil our provision of outdoor and adventurous activities.

At Edwalton we offer a wide variety of sports both through curriculum PE lessons and after school clubs. Many of the school’s staff lead after-school sports clubs targeting different age groups and sports throughout the school. We also utilise external providers to provide clubs, especially in some of the more specialised sports. Over the last year we have offered sports clubs in activities as varied as Dance, Zumba, Tag Rugby and Fencing, to name just a few.

Furthermore, Edwalton school has strong links with many local professional and amateur sports clubs. We have good links with Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, Nottingham Forest Football Club, Notts. County Football Club, Nottingham Rugby, Nottinghamshire Schools Swimming and Edwalton Golf Course. All of whom have provided coaching to our pupils in curriculum PE lessons throughout the last year.

In addition to the opportunities outlined above, we also run many school representative teams. These teams include:

Football (boys & girls teams)

Tag Rugby

Basketball

Cross Country

Athletics (indoor & outdoor)

Netball

As a school we try and enter competitions whenever possible. We participate in both competitive tournaments in the Rushcliffe area and throughout Nottinghamshire and non competitive festivals as part of the Rushcliffe School Family of Schools.
