Year 1 Culture Day

Year 1 kickstarted their new learning with a fantastic 'Culture Day'.

Year One's enquiry question for Spring term 'How does Culture and Community make a place special?' saw the children immersed in a day of culture to ready them for their learning.

We started with learning all about 'Yaldar Night' and the culture of 'Iran'. We got to try some watermelon and pomegranate seeds which are traditionally eaten to bring hope to the future.

We learnt about the history of Hong Kong and how two cultures have combined to create the modern day Hong Kong.

We learnt lots of facts about Poland and were treated to our own rendition of 'Happy Birthday' in Polish.

We looked at how many connections our classes have around the world, and marked these on a World Map!

In the afternoon, we saw some pictures from when one of our classmates travelled to Pakistan. We looked at the differences in how lives are lived and even got to try some sweet rice.

The children are so excited to continue our learning this term.

A huge thank you to all the parents who supported this fantastic day and went above and beyond to make this a memorable experience for our children.
