'Excellence at Edwalton'

Meet the Head Teacher

Mr D P Graney

Head Teacher, Senior Designated Safeguarding Lead

Edwalton Primary School is a special place to be; full of happy and enthusiastic children, extremely caring and hardworking staff, a supportive community of parents/carers and a knowledgable and committed Governing Body.

We recognise our children are Generation Alpha – a generation destined to be the most intelligent, tech savvy and globally aware. We need to prepare them for their world. A world where change, innovation, creativity, collaboration and critical thinking & problem solving are required more than ever. Our curriculum needs to prepare them for this – to be literate, numerate, open minded, problem solvers, risk takers and innovators.

Our vision is Excellence at Edwalton. We want children and staff to aim high and strive to be the best they can be - in all areas. We strive for excellent play times, excellent behaviour, excellent teaching, as well as excellent sports results and attitudes.

We value the skills and qualities our staff bring to meet the needs of our children and provide a curriculum which is bespoke to our school. With a 3 acre woodland, a farm and extensive grounds, our curriculum utilises these areas to provide real life context to learning and growth. Being the first ever generation to grow up in a completely digital world surrounded by phones and tablets, we provide experiences which can hone and develop these skills whilst ensuring they look after and value our planet.

At Edwalton, we aim to provide a positive, inclusive environment, where children feel happy and safe and flourish due to the care, nurture, support and challenge they receive. We take great pride in caring for our wonderful, sustainable environment and celebrate difference in our diverse school community. We value staff well-being and feel this is something developed through job satisfaction over time. As a close knit staff we work hard for each other as well as our children and love what we do.

Safeguarding practice and systems across the school are strong and robust. Children's safety and well-being is paramount. Children always come first. Every child’s achievement, no matter how small is celebrated. Every smile is our reward.

We have high expectations for our children, enabling them to develop, grow, and thrive. We provide challenge, enjoyment and support whilst encouraging children to be independent learners, problem solvers and team players. Children’s social, moral, spiritual and cultural development, as well as their happiness and well-being, are a key priority; extra-curricular opportunities and nurture programmes aim to develop fully rounded young people. Through our 'Children First' curriculum, we aim to equip our children with the right balance of social, emotional and academic skills to enable them to achieve academic success but also to become special people with a moral outlook. At Edwalton the children will always be at the centre of all we do.
