Primary School

Making a difference, every day

Flying High Partnership

On 1st October 2015 Edwalton Primary School entered into Partnership with the Flying High Trust. Joining the Flying High Trust brings with it a wealth of opportunity, support, challenge and accountability to ensure we continue to improve every day to provide the best opportunities for our children.

The Flying High Trust is a partnership of schools across Nottinghamshire, Nottingham City and Derbyshire. Schools work together to ensure we are relentless in ensuring our children receive the best possible opportunities and experiences. This is achieved through a true collaboration where all decisions centre on children and schools are empowered to adopt best practice, adapt it within the context of each school and fly!

We aim for our schools to be the best in the universe!

By the end of their primary education we aim for all of our children to be ready for secondary school and be inspired to be the best they can be through our seven values. The values are fundamental to everything the Trust represents; they run through all elements of school improvement and are understood and owned by all members of the school community. Schools with their own clear USP linked to their values blend together the Trust values with those held so dear within each individual school.

As a Trust Partnership our expectation is that all schools:

  • Demonstrate a restlessness to continually improve, to never stand still, with the ultimate aim of providing the best opportunities and experiences for our children.
  • Strive to ensure every child fulfils their potential regardless of potential barriers to learning.
  • Commit to become an outstanding, self-improving school and to support the profession and development of all schools within the partnership.
  • Commit to a school-led system.
  • Commit to the values, principles, policies and procedures of the Trust.
  • To ultimately strive to be the best school in the Universe.

In our schools you will see we work together to:

  • Ensure schools feel connected to the Trust whilst maintaining their unique qualities, character and relationship with their community.
  • Ensure high quality teaching and learning.
  • Engage with our families and wider communities to raise aspiration for all.
  • Develop the whole child and create inquisitive learners.
  • Enable all children to be confident, building on strengths and improving in areas of need.
  • Enable children to understand the part they play in the world in the future - as a positive citizen and a driver of business and enterprise.
  • Support the development of all staff to be the best they can be and to realise their career potential.

What you need to know when applying for a place

  • Before you apply for your child’s school place at Edwalton Primary School for September 2022, please make sure that your child is the right age – meaning they were born between 1 September 2017 and 31 August 2018 inclusive.
  • If you apply online or using a paper form, you will be asked to pick four schools in order of preference.
  • One of these schools should be your catchment school, although it does not have to be your top choice.
  • The closing date for primary school applications in England is 15th January 2022.
  • You will then find out whether your child has a place with us on 16th April 2022.
  • You can find out more and apply online here: https://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/education/school-admissions/apply-for-a-school-place
  • The school’s catchment area is centred on Edwalton and Gamston. However, we have always accepted pupils from outside the area. We are proud of our tradition of warmly welcoming pupils from outside Edwalton and Gamston. All children are part of our family once they walk through our gates for the first time. If you live outside Edwalton and Gamston and have any questions at all about how applying for a place with us might work, then do get in touch with the office.

The Flying High Trust Awards

Do you feel inspired by your child’s school, or know someone that would make a great teacher? The Flying High Partnership works in collaboration with Inspiring Leaders Teacher Training to provide an ‘Outstanding’ School Centred Teacher Training Course.

We are delighted to announce that our teacher training provision, delivered in partnership with Inspiring Leaders Teacher Training, has achieved an 'Outstanding' rating in our recent Ofsted inspection.

The inspection, conducted in May 2023, assessed the program's overall effectiveness, the quality of education and training, as well as its leadership and management. The Ofsted report highlighted the overwhelmingly positive experiences of trainees, who actively sought out Inspiring Leaders Teacher Training due to its renowned high-quality training. The inspectors were particularly impressed by the strong culture of ambition, professionalism, and high expectations, all while prioritising the wellbeing of trainees. As one Headteacher said, "There is a really strong culture of ambition, professionalism, and high expectation, but this is all wrapped up by having the well-being of all trainees at heart."

Edwalton Primary School is proud of the partnership we have with Inspiring Leaders Teacher Training and we know encourage parents who might be interested in a Teaching career to ask in school for more information about how to train with us.  Trainee teachers benefit from the fantastic support provided by the dedicated staff at the centre and during their placements in schools.

Our Head teacher, Mr. Thomas, shared, “Several of our teachers were home-grown within the SCITT and are going from strength to strength as classroom practitioners.”

Inspiring Leaders Teacher Training offers various routes towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), including SCITT (fee-paying and salaried) and assessment-only routes. We are thrilled to announce that 90 trainees have already signed up to begin their journey with us in September this year, across the region.

Chris Wheatley, CEO of Flying High Partnership, echoed the sentiments of the report, expressing great pride in the Outstanding rating. “I am absolutely delighted to have achieved an Ofsted outstanding, recognising our commitment to teacher training across this area and beyond. We know that by having outstanding teacher training across Derbyshire we can attract the high-quality trainees, who through our support will become exceptional teachers within schools across the locality

The 'Outstanding' rating awarded to Inspiring Leaders Teacher Training is a testament to the dedication, hard work, and passion of all those involved in the program. It exemplifies the strong partnership between the training provider, schools, and trainees, all working together to shape the next generation of confident and effective teachers.
