Making a difference, every day

Year 5

Year 5 kicked off our #TeamEdwalton sports day series with Maple and Cedar class competing against each other across different athletics disciplines.

What a fabulous show!

Year 5 are busy working on the farm after school!

We’ve started rehearsing! It’s ‘Robin Hood and the Sherwood Hoodies’!

Year 5 have been outdoors composing music. Inspired by #BBCTenPieces, we worked on short compositions as additions to Holst's Planet Suite @BBC_Teach

In our final session of '5 on the farm' this half term, Year 5 took the alpacas on a walk around the woods.

A big thank you to Keyworth Cricket coaches Georgia and Essan for braving the rain to deliver a fantastic session to our year 5 classes.

Thanks to Liam Brown from #HolmePierrpont #Canoe Club for inspiring our Year 5s today in your presentation about @CanoeSlalom

Exciting opportunities ahead for our #TeamEdwalton youngsters with access to taster sessions at the National Water Sports Centre.

Year 5 have been inspired by spring this week producing some stunning art along with some moving and uplifting poetry. Great work team.

In Year 3, the children have been thinking about The Creation and have been reflecting upon how we can all care for our world. Thank goodness the future is in your hands children! Have a lovely half term, everyone.

Year 5 this week we have visited the Grand Canyon, learned about events in American history that have impacted our world and started to understand about prejudice and discrimination. We have also created some fantastic writing inspired by the music video Titanium.

Some great work again in Year 5 this week. Using Titanium as a writing stimulus with great results alongside our trip to the USA. We got our creative juices flowing retelling the resurrection story, with Will Smith inspiring our Fresh Prince rapping.

Year 5 have spent the final week of their 'virtual' travels in India immersing themselves in the culture - a visit to an Islamic wedding, finding out about the street children of Mumbai, enjoying the Hindu festival of Holi and ending the week with a reflective goodbye letter.

Once again some amazing work in Year 5 this week. Writing inspired by Kipling, art inspired by Matisse, science inspired by Galileo and even cooking our own curry. Life may be different at the moment but it doesn't have to be dull!

Year 5 were out in the woods to record the 'Wise Man Rap' as our contribution to the whole school Christmas production.

Maple Class have been having fun learning in the woods.

Year 5 were out in the woods on Friday. Cedar class practised and performed role plays in PSHE to demonstrate different strategies to resolve conflicts in friendships. Maple class were out on a mindful walk to finish the week.

Nottingham's rebellious past!

We have been learning about Nottingham’s rebellious past, including the Luddites and Suffragettes. The children had a choice of how they could show what they had learned - some wrote fact files, others chose to make posters. Here are four videos of children that wrote their own poems independently - these are amazing. All of the children worked really hard and we are so proud of their efforts. Well done!

The first full week back and we've all survived! A great finish to our Friday with an afternoon in the woods, around the campfire, reading the few chapters of our new class book - Viking Boy.

This week, we have spend some time thinking about what is special to us...special places, special people and how we can make our classroom a special place to be.
